Psalm 107

Psalm 107 parallels Psalm 106, speaking of the various rebellions of the people of God. Despite their frequent disobedience and rebellion, God persisted in his steadfast love for them. He continued to hear their prayers, and come to their aid in their time of need, again and again and again.

Lord, as we consider your faithful, persistent love, not just for your people of old, but for us today, despite the many times we've turned from you, help us see that your love is sincere. You genuinely love us. Not because we are good, but because you are gracious. Even when we're asking you to bail us out of messes we've put ourselves in because we've ignored your wisdom, you're still coming to our aid. Again and again and again. You are amazing, Lord.

Lord, let us not be blind to your love, nor let us fail to sing your praise, but let us see and rejoice (v. 42). For truly you are good, and your love is beyond measure. As we praise you and your love, O Lord, we pray also: shape us to be like you. Shape us to be people who are quick to forgive, and people who will love even our enemies, and love all who are against us. Bitterness, grudges, vengeance, hate, and violence lead only to darkness, division, and despair, but the light of love will bring healing, reconciliation, unity, peace, well being, and joy. We pray Lord, fill our hearts with your love, that we might freely love others as you have loved us. We pray that as a result, this world might become more and more the place you created it to be, saturated with and overflowing with pure love. In Jesus' name, amen.
