Psalm 120

Updated: Aug 24, 2020

"Deliver me, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue" (Psalm 120:2).

Lord, we rightfully respect the dangerous power of a wild animal's fangs. Yet even more destructive is the power of the human tongue. Lying lips can be more painful than a lion's bite. And like a lion's ambush, deception can lead us unwittingly toward our own destruction.

We pray, deliver us from those who seek to harm us with their words. Speed the day when the lion and the lamb lay down together. Speed the day when opposition ends and peace reigns supreme.

We pray not only for deliverance from our enemies, but we pray for deliverance from all deception. Speed the day when your truth shall reign supreme. Speed the day when we no longer live in a "war for truth" as people fight over facts and fiction. Speed the day when political battles will be over forever, because you will be the one and only king, and every policy will be perfect, and every person will be perfectly cared for forever. Speed the day when war against the "invisible enemy," the coronavirus, will be over because diseases will be eternally eradicated. Speed the day when war against our Enemy the Devil, the Father of Lies, will be over forever because we will be eternally secure in your kingdom and he will be defeated and imprisoned forever.

We long also for our own hearts to be delivered from deception. Conform us to your truth that we might be a reflection of your light and your glorious truth in this world where darkness is waning and your light is dawning. We pray, come quickly, Lord Jesus, amen.
