Psalm 125

Updated: Sep 8, 2020

"Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,

which cannot be moved, but abides forever.

As the mountains surround Jerusalem,

so the Lord surrounds his people,

from this time forth and forevermore."

Lord, we have often called mountains "mighty" and "majestic," because they are symbols of strength and beauty, of greatness and endurance, of grandeur and wonder. And you crown us with these promises: we who trust in you shall be like Mount Zion, firm forever, unmoved by the fiercest of opposition. "Though all the fires of hell endeavor to shake" us, we will remain unmoved. Though sin and death endeavor to undo us, we will live forever, because Jesus Christ lives in us. Hallelujah! Amen!

Lord, you enrich us with a second mountain promise. Not only will you make us like a firm and secure mountain, but you promise you will be like mountains surrounding us, offering protection from opposition. Now we know the truth of how we will not be moved: it is because you are with us, to protect us and uphold us. In addition to offering us protection, you offer us your companionship and friendship, as you remain close, always beside us and before us. You are always looking out for us.

Lord, though the circumstances of life may threaten to overwhelm us, let us rest on these rock-solid promises. We who trust in you are like Mount Zion, and you surround us like the mighty mountains surrounding Jerusalem. Amen and amen! Let it be so, Lord Jesus, amen.
