Psalm 132

King David once was struck by the fact that he had a palace, but the Lord had only a tent. In his zeal for the Lord, David promised to build a "house" for the Lord ("house" meaning temple). Instead, however, the Lord promised to build a "house" for David ("house" meaning dynasty. See 2 Samuel 7:1-16, especially v. 2 and v. 11-12). Psalm 132 celebrates David's zeal and the Lord's gracious promises.

Father, we thank you for King David and his zeal for you. We thank you that his faith and his faithfulness have been a channel of blessing for all his spiritual descendants. Even though Psalm 132 is a psalm about David and not a psalm written by David, we thank you for the many psalms he did write that have helped us come to know you and your love for us in every season of life.

Father, although we do thank you for David and how his faithfulness blessed us, we thank you all the more for his descendant, the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the fulfillment of your promise to David to give him an everlasting dynasty, a descendant who would sit on his throne forever.

Yes, Jesus, we thank you that your are our King! You are our rescuer, our defender, our provider, our rock, our assurance, our everything. Jesus, grant that we might live our lives for your service and your glory. You are everything to us. It is our honor to live for you. In your name do we pray, amen.
