Psalm 135

"Whatever the Lord pleases, he does,

in heaven and on earth,

in the seas and all deeps."

Psalm 135:6

Father God, we are grateful that you are good. You have sovereign power to do whatever you please, a power you exercise on a daily basis. We are grateful that you use that power to cause the sun to rise every morning. We are grateful that you use that power to provide air for our lungs every day. We are grateful you use your power to cause our crops to grow that we might have food. Lord, you are the creator of every living thing, and the author and sustainer of all life. We thank you that you are benevolent and kind, and use your power for our benefit.

Father, we believe that no one else could do your job. At least, not like you do. This is humorously displayed in the movie Bruce Almighty, as a man is endowed with godlike powers, and yet also inundated by godlike responsibilities...like hearing and addressing billions of prayers every day. Truly, Lord, we believe no one else would do your job with the loyal love you lavish on us, and the constant care, and the availability and access you offer, and the forgiveness you freely give us day after day, and the countless blessings besides.

Father, help us delight in your rich and abundant love for us, resting in this care, and throwing off the worries that weigh down on us. Help us trust that you will be faithful to all of your promises, as you always have been, and help us trust you in the work you are doing in this world and in our lives. We pray, Lord, let your will be done, because your will is good, pleasing and perfect. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
