Psalm 136 reminds us to count our many blessings from the Lord. He made the earth to be a home for his people, and put the sun and the moon in the sky so that we would have plenty of light. He delivered his people from Pharaoh and his armies, splitting the Red Sea in two that they might cross through it unto safety. He uprooted wicked kings and nations, and gave their lands to his people, that they might have a home, and that through them his light might increasingly fill the earth. He remembers us in times of need, delivers us from danger, and daily sustains us with the food we need.
Lord, this psalm reminds us 26 times: your steadfast love endures forever. As they say, "repetition is the mother of all learning." Certainly, this is a truth worth learning, and a truth we would do well to meditate upon, letting it permeate our very soul until we are filled with this truth and have it set as the very foundation of our lives: your steadfast love endures forever.
We thank you, Father, that your love is steadfast, enduring, and eternal. We thank you that your love isn't fickle, uncertain, or momentary. We thank you that your love for us is unconditional, not based on who we are or what we've done, but based entirely upon your amazing grace. We thank you that our shortcomings and sins don't lessen your love for us one bit, but you persist in your faithful love forever. Forever. O Lord, let us grasp the truth of your enduring love more and more. You will never stop loving us. You won't give up on us. Your steadfast love for us will endure forever and ever. Lord, let your peace wash over us as we bask in this glorious truth: your steadfast love endures forever. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
