Psalm 138

"On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased....

For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life.... The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever."

Psalm 138:3, 6-8

Abba Father, we praise you that you are the God who walks with us, even in times of trouble. When we are alone, you are with us. When the world around us is cold, dark, unfamiliar, and uncertain, you are with us. When we call out to you, you hear us, and you are already here with us. You strengthen us to face whatever is before us. Not that we always become strong enough on our own, but you make your strength available to us, that we might make it through our troubles together with you. Lord, we thank you that you aren't just the God of the rich and famous and attractive and powerful, as if we had to impress you to get your help. Rather, you are the God of the lowly and the poor, the weak and the needy. You are the God of people like us. We thank you that you claim us, and are willing to be associated with us, and to be known as our God.

Father, you have purpose for our lives. We praise you that we aren't random and purposeless creations, but people you have created with particular purposes and reasons in mind. Your steadfast love endures forever. In Jesus' name, amen.
