Psalm 65

In Psalm 65, David celebrates God as the creator, sustainer, and savior.

O Lord, your majestic power is without equal. The mighty mountains, with which you crowned the earth, stretch so high into the sky that we humans struggle to scale their peaks. Many have been humbled by failed attempts to reach their tops. These majestic mountains stand forever as a testimony of your matchless might. "By [your] strength [you] established the mountains" (v.6). The roaring seas also have humbled many a man who have sought to sail across. Yet we remember, Lord Jesus, when you spoke, and the winds and the waves obeyed you.

Your fatherly care also is without equal. You provide grain that we might sow and reap. You provide rain that our crops might grow. You provide the increase, that we might have a bountiful harvest. Meadows clothed with sheep, valleys decked out with grain, pastures overflowing, hills singing with joy, and you, O Lord are behind it all. The whole earth receives your blessings with joy, and offerings up it's songs of thanksgiving.

Your merciful love is also without equal. Our sins abound every day, yet in your great love for us, "you atone for our transgressions" (v.3). Isn't it enough that you gave us the gift of life? Isn't it enough that you daily sustain our lives with every good thing? No; it is not enough for you. Even more than these things, you forgive all our rebellious ways and restore us again and again to a right relationship with you. Your grace is amazing, O Lord. Let us sing of your love forever! Amen.
